Shopper Tips - How to complete a website or app assessment

We often have these types of assignments available which you can apply for by signing up as a mystery shopper, or if you are already registered as a shopper, logging in here: www.mystery-shoppers.co.uk.

What will I need?

• A computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone with sound and video recording capability (most will have this built-in) If you are using a PC or laptop which does not have a webcam, you may need to purchase one. They are usually no more than £20.
• Screen recording software or an app installed on your device. When using a computer or laptop, our shoppers often use https://www.flashbackrecorder.com/express/ because it is completely free, easy to install and use. When you open Flashback, make sure record sound and record webcam are ticked and from the dropdowns, make sure that the correct devices are ticked:

Clcik on ‘Tools’, then ‘Options’ to check settings. Go to Misc. and make sure you are set to ‘Keep PC awake and disable screensavers during recording’:

Click OK, you will now be taken back to the main screen and you can start recording. It is always worth doing some test runs first to get used to the technology.

When you have finished your website assessment, you will be asked to save the recording. You can then watch it back on Flashback Express Player.

The recorder also comes with software to play your videos back and export them.

Top Tip: Play your video the whole way through to check that your webcam recording doesn’t block anything important form view. If it does, pause your video and move/resize your webcam video.

What shall I do with my recording?

Make sure you save it, then go to File then Export and export it as an MP4. The shopper brief will give you instructions on whether to upload the recording straight to your assessment form on your shopper portal, or whether to send the recording to the team member listed on the shopper brief.
